Exposition Writing: Who Is The Better Leader?

WALT: follow the writing process to write an exposition.

For writing I had a choice of two leaders who I wanted to compare and find out who was better at leading.
I chose Brendon McCullum and Barack Obama. Overall I thought that Barack Obama was better, here is my conclusion to justify my statement:

In my opinion Barack Obama is a better leader leader because he motivates 300,000,000 people towards the goal of making America better and is extremely successful at doing so. On the other hand Brendon is successful at leading 10 others to win a cricket match he is nowhere near as inspirational as Barack Obama.

Maths Statistics Investigation

WALT: plan and conduct surveys and experiments using the statistical enquiry cycle.

For the last couple of weeks Ye-joon and I have been working on gathering people's opinions on what zone they like to work in so we can create a graph with the information given. In this screenshot you can see the graph of the results and the percentage of who likes which zone. The percentage of people who voted other was 29.4% making it the highest voted option and Whanau zone had the least percentage of 7.4%.

Our solo level achieved was Extended-Abstract because I think we collected data efficiently.

Our next step is to conduct a higher level investigation

WALT: apply the techniques of improvisation to a range of different scenarios.

Improvisation techniques that I have used successfully are, always say yes, Listen and Work with your partner/group.

Improvisation techniques that I would like to have more practice at Thinking on the spot.

The thing that I enjoyed most about this unit of learning was getting to perform and to watch others perform because it was a good laugh between the group in a positive way.

The thing that I found most challenging during this unit of learning was completing the starting tasks because I was away for the first weeks and I struggled to catch back up.

My favourite improv game was Alphabet because it was fun to come up with the random sentences.

My next step/ something I need to work on further  in improvisation is not to laugh or get distracted as much because sometimes my friends and I would get a bit silly and distract the group and ourselves.

Term 1 Integrated Learning - Leadership

We have been learning all about What makes a good leader.

We identified that good leaders show 6 main character traits. These are:
Integrity
Goal Focused
Resilient
Trustworthy
Active Thinker
Motivational

The leadership trait that I think I show the most is Resilience because when we have to do a hard task in class I get it done.

The leadership trait I would most like to develop is Integrity because to be honest I don't really care about others.

Something NEW I have learned about leadership is that you don't have to be a captain or a school leader to show leadership.

The SOLO level that I reached during this unit of learning is Extended Abstract because I completed all the tasks to a high standard.

My next step in learning about leadership is to apply everything that I have learned about leadership to my own leadership roles.

Balancing Responsibilities: Student Leadership #3

Today during the leadership meeting the student leaders did a series of tasks to do with balancing responsibilities. First we watched a video. Then we read a chapter in a book about leadership, the chapter Time Flies, Do Not Waste A Single Day. Finally we did a follow up activity, here are my answers to the follow up.

The leadership trait I showed during this activity was connect because I connected my ideas.

I can find, select and use a range of texts for specific learning purposes in different tasks and learning areas of the curriculum.

For my “Evaluating Leaders” research I have been researching about who is a better leader Barack Obama or Brendon McCullum.

During this unit I have had to use a range of strategies to find the information I needed on Google. This include:

• Cross-Checking my information.
• Referencing the websites I used.

I have achieved this goal because I completed my plan and I cross-checked and referenced the facts I got online.

Leadership Meeting: Student Leadership #2

Today in the leadership meeting we talked about the tabloid sports event coming up and to be prepared to called in for planning. We also talked about how many blog posts everyone has done. I have done 5 blog posts and 1 draft. To finish off the meeting we blogged about the meeting(that's what I'm doing now).

The learner disposition I showed was Question because I asked a question about the mini-football tournament Jake and I are planning to run.
